Managing Distress is a skills-based program designed to introduce our patients to various skills to help them to manage their distress. In this program, we strongly believe that every skill works for someone and no skill works for everyone. Therefore, the skills in this group come from a variety of evidence-based treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Schema Therapy.
This program is run four days per week and is an open group, so patients can join the group at any time. Your psychiatrist will determine if this group is suitable for you.
South Coast Private runs two types of programs for patients with PTSD. The initial three week group therapy program provides a psycho-educative format by which patients develop insight into the nature of PTSD, symptom management, interpersonal sequelae, and relapse prevention. The group program also provides a stepping stone to the more intensive trauma processing program.
South Coast Private has adopted an innovative approach to the management of PTSD in accordance with the National Guidelines for the Treatment of PTSD. Eligible patients are provided with intensive inpatient one-2-one treatment using trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (for PTSD). This program lasts between 5 and 8 weeks, depending upon the clinical need. Please note; Health fund approval is required to participate in these programs.
We offer a range of additional programs at South Coast Private. These sessions run independently of the therapeutic programs and are attendance is encouraged by all patients.
