South Coast Private has strong relationships and partnerships with a number of professional bodies, related charities, associations and teaching organisations. Our hospital has a Memorandum of Understanding and affiliation with the University of Wollongong.

South Coast Private Medical Advisory Committee

Under the guidance of Associate Professor and Medical Director of South Coast Private, our experienced psychiatrists from the Illawarra region have been closely involved in the planning and services at South Coast Private and continue to be involved in the operations of our hospital. The South Coast Private Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) consists of highly experienced Illawara based psychiatrists who meet regularly to facilitate the interaction between Healthe Care and appropriate mental health professionals.

University of Wollongong – MoU

South Coast Private’s affiliation with the University of Wollongong is long-standing and based on mutual collaborations in pursuant of common goals of promoting excellence in the education and clinical practice of health services. These collaborative activities will include:

(a) facilitating student clinical placements across relevant disciplines at UOW

(b) jointly funding positions to benefit both parties

(c) provision of professional development training

(d) engaging UOW staff on a consultancy basis, and

(e) planning and conducting collaborative research projects


On 13 April 2017, Healthe Care Australia (“Healthe Care”), Australia’s third largest corporate private hospital operator and pan-Asian health care services group acquired Evolution Healthcare’s three Illawarra hospitals: Shellharbour Private Hospital, South Coast Private Hospital and Wollongong Day Surgery.

Healthe Care currently has:

  • 35 private hospitals (34 in Australia and one in New Zealand)
  • Approaching 7,000 staff
  • Near 2,500 hospital beds
